When a family owned company has triumphed through four generations spanning two continents, you can’t argue that they are a master of their craft. 

Thorden Glass embodies four generations of Danish-bred glass craftsmen, traditionally known as glarmesters. 

Christensen Glarmesters was initially established in Denmark, and when Carl & Esther Christensen immigrated to New Zealand in 1951 they established Whakatane Glass Limited.

Today Carl & Esther’s son John Christensen and grand children, Thor Christensen and Vanessa MacLeod, continue to operate the business out of Whakatane but under Thorden Glass.  The name ‘Thorden’ incorporates their strong Danish heritage - an inherent part of the company - and the almost 25 years of design and glazing experience retained by head designer and company director, Thor Christensen.

This combination of design skill and generational glazing experience is what makes Thorden so unique in delivering a ‘custom glass’ service.
